Pages: 428
Format: A4
Year: 2015
Languages: Polish, English

The handbook "Porozmawiajmy..." is addressed to students who would like to master the Polish language as a foreign language in a relatively short time and to achieve the ability to use it while studying or working in Poland as well as to continue the self-study of the language.

The objective of the handbook is to develop language skills and help the correct and confident use of the Polish language, going far beyond the limited range of situations. The objective has mainly been reached by means of:
1. A description of the grammatical structure, first of all, of a full sentence (simple and developed) as the main unit of the language communication,
2. Introduction into the basic themes and situations of the language.

The abovementioned assumptions imposed the use of the syntactic method to fulfil the main objective, i.e. assuring the effective interpersonal language communication. Thus, special  emphasis has been placed on the inflectional and syntactic aspects of the language, as they are crucial for the formation of sentences. The consequence of such approach is a presentation of predominantly the issues of declension, conjugation, aspect and case government of verbs.

The dialogue as the basic form of communication, highlighted in the handbook, accounts for the use of the two main types of a sentence: interrogative and affirmative. They constitute the core of the handbook and are developed in "Ćwiczenia" (Part 3 of "Porozmawiajmy..."). Apart from the basic form of question – answer, a short dialogue, basic functional units, substitution, addition and transformation exercises have been used.

An overall synthetic approach to the basis of the Polish grammar imposed also maximum transparency in the division of the material presented - one teaching unit (lesson) comprises a complete grammatical issue (with just two exceptions, due to their extensiveness). Each teaching unit (lesson) comprises:
1. A brief, concise lecture on the rules of the Polish grammar in English,
2. A longer text which illustrates the use of the rules described,
3. Exercises which are connected with the given text and the discussed grammatical issues, often developing the subject.

"Porozmawiajmy..." part 1 contains:
1. Introduction
2. Units 1-16 (including 209 exercises)
3. Syntactical Dictionary
4. Key

It is recommended that "Porozmawiajmy..." Part 1, for the development of the material and  widening the range of topics, should be supplemented with Part 3 - Ćwiczenia. Similarly, Part 4 - Zagadki i żarty, in its humorous fashion, can also serve as a useful supplement to the basic teaching course.
